SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT - Special Olympics Vermont recognized Lenny's Shoe and Apparel with the “2012 Fundraising Organization of the Year” award during the annual Awards Banquet at The Woodstock Inn and Resort.

Held during the three-day Special Olympics Vermont Winter Games, the Awards Banquet honors athletes and volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the SOVT community and mission. Eleven categories include male/female athlete of the year, volunteer of the year, coach of the year, rookie of the year, most improved athlete of the year, and fundraising organization of the year were awarded.

Award winners were selected by committee from a pool of nominees. In 2012, Lenny's ran a promotion in conjunction with the timing of the Olympic Games in London that raised $12,000 for Special Olympics Vermont.

“We enjoy the festive spirit the Olympic Games created in the United States and found a way to share that spirit within our community,” said Mark McCarthy, Lenny's co-owner.

“Lenny's Shoe and Apparel was a wonderful partner for Special Olympics Vermont in 2012 and we hope that this relationship continues for many years to come,” said Lisa DeNatale, President and CEO of Special Olympics Vermont.  “We are thrilled that we are able to partner with local businesses for the mutual benefit of both parties which is exactly what happened with Lenny's.”
